How long have you been part of the QV1 mailroom team and what’s a typical day for you?
Every day in the mailroom is a busy one — but that’s what I love about it. My day usually starts with receiving and sending off all the building’s mail, before making my rounds to deliver it to every floor. I also look after stock orders for our contractors’ breakout room, manage all the incoming and outgoing dry cleaning, and help with any mailroom or loading dock questions that come my way. Most importantly, I do my best to make sure the space runs smoothly — and that everyone feels safe, supported, and happy while they’re here.
What’s the most interesting or unusual thing you’ve seen come through the mailroom?
We see all sorts of things come through the mailroom, but one that stands out was a specially signed surfboard delivered for Euroz Hartleys’ Commission for a Cause event. It’s not every day you have to find space for a surfboard among the parcels!
What do you enjoy most about your role and being part of the QV1 community?
It’s the people who make my job so special. I love the daily chats and friendly faces from all the different tenants in the building – there’s always someone to laugh with or a story to share. Over the years, I’ve come to know so many wonderful people, and I really enjoy celebrating their special moments. When someone’s expecting, I love knitting a little outfit for the new arrival. It’s such a joy to be part of those happy times. And at Christmas, my favourite time of year, I bake cookies and hand them out as I do my mail rounds. It’s my way of giving back and spreading a bit of cheer throughout the QV1 community.
What’s something people might not realise about the work that goes into keeping the mailroom running smoothly?
Most people don’t realise just how active the job is – I definitely don’t need a gym membership! I average over 10,000 steps a day delivering mail around the building. It keeps me fit and gives me a chance to say hello to everyone along the way.
Outside of work, what’s one thing you’re passionate about or love spending time on?
Outside of work, my big passion is photography — something I’ve loved for more than 15 years. I especially enjoy photographing animals, and on a recent trip back home to South Africa, I was lucky enough to capture some of the Big Five in Kruger National Park. I’m also a bit of a craft lover at heart. I’ve been knitting and sewing for years — everything from costumes for dance groups to quilts for the homeless. There’s something so rewarding about creating things that bring comfort or joy to others.
